Exploring software

Exploring Software

  • HTML- Is this a good option for creating a digital portfolio?
- HTML is defiantly a good option for creating a digital portfolio, with this markup language we are able to use markup tags that we use for describing web pages, they contain HTML Tags and plain text as well, they pretty much describe web pages. It provides a mean for us to create structured documents on the web with structural semantics for texts like paragraphs, headings, links, phrases and other items on the web page.It allows us to embed images, text and other types of media on our digital portfolios. Its written in the form of elements that consist of things known as tags that are keywords surrounded by angle brackets for example .

- The tags usually come in pairs, in such a way that whatever you do, you can later undo.
The purpose of web browsers like safari, FireFox and etc is to read the HTML documents then display them as web pages. it doesn't show the tags but uses the HTML tags to convert/ interpret the content on the page.

  • What advantages do we have using software like frontpage and dreamweaver?
- Microsoft FrontPage
Microsoft frontpage is a HTML editor and web site administration tool created by Microsoft operating systems. With frontpage there are interactive buttons that give users a way to create web images and graphics for navigation on web pages and links instead of using complicated image-editors like adobe photoshop and etc. It was created so users could be able to create and edit pages without knowing any HTML.

- Dreamweaver
Dreamweaver is a web development application that was created by macromedia/ adobe system, dreamweaver does the same things that frontpage does like allowing us to create and develop web pages/ sites without having to use or know in hyper text language.Dreamweaver can hide The HTML code details of pages from the user creating the web page making it possible for non-code users to creates sites and etc. with this application it is very easy to create table-based layouts. It supports CSS, JavaScript and other web related technologies. It also allows its users to preview their websites in locally-installed web browsers.

  • what advantages or disadvantages does wiki have for you as a publication tool?
- A wiki Like Wikipedia( for example) is a web site that uses a wiki software, that allows its users to create and edit any number of interlinked web pages using a simplified markup language or a text browser within the browser. They are often used to create collaborative websites, to power community based websites, for note taking, and in knowledge management systems. Most Wiki's have a specific purpose like Wikipedia which is an online encyclopedia, such wiki's accept all sorts of content without any rigid/strict rules as to how the information is to be organized.

- A wiki provides meaningful things related to the subject topic between different pages with easy page links and showing weather and intended web page exists or not.A wiki enables documents to be written collaborate lively in a simple markup language using your web browser.

- One disadvantage with wiki's is that any user can edit the information/ date on the web page and sometimes that information may not be accurate or true, so they aren't a very reliable source for information because pretty much anyone with access to the wiki software can change or add on false information which can facilitate abuse of the system. I don't think that using a wiki for a digital portfolio is a good option because anyone with access to the browser can change or edit the information you have put on your web page.
