MY Work On MYP Computer Technology;Grade 8
This semester we did a lot of work in computer technology for our main goal which was to create a digital portfolio. My strengths throughout this project I think has been my creativity and design. I really liked my backgrounds and the structure of most of my pages. Some of my weaknesses were things like time management. Most of the things I had originally planned to do in my time line I didn't complete because of the amount of time I had, and also I didn't collect my information before hand, and instead did everything in class(collecting Information and editing),which really caused me to waste a lot of time.
I created my digital portfolio because Mrs.Mora had told us that we were going to make them and that some of the important aspects of having this portfolio would help us with applications to college's and jobs. I do Intend to continue using my portfolio, and adding more information and hopefully when I get to that stage of going to university I can use it.
I think My mom, will be very happy with my portfolio and all my work. She will probably like me also find it very useful and important to my steps to success later on. I think learning about HTML beforehand helped me a lot on my portfolio, because there were a couple of things that were not working to well. The photoshop skills we learnt didn't necessarily help me with my portfolio, but were very useful and helpful to me, and am really glad we did it because now I know a lot more on what I can do with editing pictures than I did before. Before I only knew how to change colors, brightness and contrast and now I can add different features to my pictures and etc. I also think the blogging is very important because now with the internet and other technology, we are able to easily share our views in one place where everyone can access. I also liked learning about HTML, at first I thought it was going to be a bit of a challenge because whenever I usually see those codes, I have always thought it was very hard to build a website, but with HTML codes it is very simple and easy.
I was really proud of and I think I did well with my uganda website, my website and my collage. I struggled a bit with the workshops in photoshop especially with the lady and the boat. Otherwise I think I did preety well, another thing I struggled with was time especially with my digital portfolio, I wasnt able to finish my collage reflection because of my portfolio. I think next time, try harder to work with those time restrictions.
In terms of the MYP design cycle, I think after I realised that following those steps and guidlines and really understanding them does help you improve and complete your work successfully, because before this I didn't really find the design cycle any useful and I was doing my work the way I saw fit, which was not allowing me to take my work to the next step, thats why rubrics and instruction criteria sheets are given to you in the first place.
I am glad to have completed and learnt all those things in the course. I am really proud and happy with most of my end results, but also sad to finish the computer technology course because I really love working with all the computer software and etc, and am also not too good with manual things in design technology. If i had to improve anything, I think giving us a bit more time on our portfolio's would be quite useful, but overall I loved it and am going to miss Mrs.Mora and all the different things we learnt and she taught us. I will also definately continue using my blog, for my other projects and maybe improve or add information along the way to my digital portfolio for later use like in university and etc.

Timeline- Start of Digital Portfolio
For my digital portfolio, I am first going to spend the 25th to around the 27th working on my home page collecting the information and pictures and putting the things together, i will use some of the information i did with our first HTML project. The from the 28 to the 2nd of December work on personal information like my family and travels, including pictures and information. Then from the 3rd to the 8th of December work on my academic information, which is mainly my main focus and I am a bit worried that 5 days might not be enough but I will work something out for the final deadline, then on the 9th to the deadline I will work on my future intentions and countries I have resided in.
I think working on one particular field at a time, will help me finish on time, instead of collecting the information and then putting things together, I guess I like multi-tasking. I hope, well I have to meet the deadline on time, and at the same time create a finished and polished portfolio.

My Collage in Photoshop
Reflection
For my collage, I did something that held a lot of significance to me, which was Pakistan's 2009 Fashion week. There has been a lot of conflict and turmoil in Pakistan because of the Taliban. I read a lot of magazines and look at many collections that are shown in other fashion weeks around the world. It is something that is very dear to me and I love watching different pieces by these incredible designers. When I heard about Pakistan's fashion week on the news, I was so excited and happy that these women and men were taking a stand against the Taliban, and doing something that they believed in, this really meant a lot to me, and it touched in a profound way, so when I found out we were going to make collage's on something of our choice, I had to cover this.
For this collage it took me quite a while to understand and design how I was going to create this picture, and clearly highlight and show all my pictures. It wasn't as hard as I originally thought it would be. Once I got started, and with all the tools Mrs.Mora had taught us and my photography club supervisor, It wasn't as difficult. I think I did a good job over all, although I had a bit of problems with cropping and cutting, like taking of bits of hair, their ears but I think the effects and adjustments didn't make it as bad as it actually was.
I think as far as improvements, next time taking care with the way I cut out the pictures, doing it a bit more meticulously the next time. Clearly following the outlines and etc. Taking a bit more risks would help like using more filters and adjustments rather than the ones I already knew or that she had shown us
I think the best advice I could give to students who will be doing this assignment would be to pick a topic or subject for your portfolio that you feel strongly about and is close to you other than something random and kind of irrelevant.
I utterly and completely love and adore photoshop. It is such a useful and amazing tool to use for editing pictures. There is so much you can do with this tool compared to other tools like paint and etc. Its really neat and cool, what you can do with photoshop, you can brush or smudge scars, give someone a leg or eye that wasn't there before in their orginally photos. I think learning about photoshop in this course was very important and vital for all of us before beginning our portfolio's which we wouldnt be able to do without all the knowledge we acquired on resolution, picture size and etc with photoshop.
I think my performance with the first workshops, was not as good as I know I could have done and accomplished. I am a bit dissapointed with some of them like the lady because I know if I had been a bit more paitent with myself I could have done a successful job with those workshops. I was really happy and proud of the end result of my portfolio. I felt it was really important to get those pictures out there, and include them because they were very attractive figures that also had a strong and powerful story behind them.
Most of the pictures you see on many websites, have been photoshopped and edited to make them better whether its their contrast, color or brightness, Photoshop can do it all. That's why it is such a useful and brilliant tool when building or creating a webpage or website.I think photoshop can help us with changing the resolution of the pictures we are going to put on our websites, cropping them, changing their sizes and other editiing tools, which will help our websites more attractive and appealing to the eye.

My Photo Collage- Pakistan's First Fashion Week
Last week, Pakistan held its fashion week in Karachi, which is a city located about two hours by plane from the primary nesting place of the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Despite threats from the Taliban and religious extremists in the south, the show still went on. This was the first fashion week Pakistan has hosted, with only Pakistan's very own designers, models and backstage crew.
The show was a great success, and a gesture of defiance to the Taliban and their views and approaches to women in the region and their preferences for the burqa despite the militant violence and security issues in the country. Some of Karachi's top designers displayed their clothes like Sonia Battla and others. I am doing my collage on this because I strongly believe in empowerment of Islamic women who have gone through lot of hardships and struggles because of the Taliban's rules regulating much of woman's rights, and them taking a stand with this display of some of Pakistan's best threads, models, textures and designers.

The Next Area/Page Will Have My Future Intentions, My Aspirations In my Life, what I am hoping to accomplish and acquire in the future days/years to come. What I want to accomplish, New things that I would like to try out and many more Like my aspirations to work in the publishing industry and what I wish to achieve to reach my goals with such a reputation or position in my society.
The Next Page Will have information on the schools I Have attended like the International School of Uganda, Green Hills International academy( Rwanda) and etc. It Will also include the countries/regions that I have Lived in Like Kenya,Rwanda And Uganda. What I learned from those different cultures, the knowledge of those different areas that I acquired, My Different accomplishments and achievements in life.
I hope that with my digital portfolio, I will be able to express and show the work that I have done in the past few years, my accomplishments, things I didn't do to well with, achievements, triumphs and failures. I don't want to be boring, and just ordinary, I want the reader to really get to know me through reading my electronic portfolio.

Exploring Software
.
- The tags usually come in pairs, in such a way that whatever you do, you can later undo.
The purpose of web browsers like safari, FireFox and etc is to read the HTML documents then display them as web pages. it doesn't show the tags but uses the HTML tags to convert/ interpret the content on the page.
Microsoft frontpage is a HTML editor and web site administration tool created by Microsoft operating systems. With frontpage there are interactive buttons that give users a way to create web images and graphics for navigation on web pages and links instead of using complicated image-editors like adobe photoshop and etc. It was created so users could be able to create and edit pages without knowing any HTML.
- Dreamweaver
Dreamweaver is a web development application that was created by macromedia/ adobe system, dreamweaver does the same things that frontpage does like allowing us to create and develop web pages/ sites without having to use or know in hyper text language.Dreamweaver can hide The HTML code details of pages from the user creating the web page making it possible for non-code users to creates sites and etc. with this application it is very easy to create table-based layouts. It supports CSS, JavaScript and other web related technologies. It also allows its users to preview their websites in locally-installed web browsers.
- A wiki provides meaningful things related to the subject topic between different pages with easy page links and showing weather and intended web page exists or not.A wiki enables documents to be written collaborate lively in a simple markup language using your web browser.
- One disadvantage with wiki's is that any user can edit the information/ date on the web page and sometimes that information may not be accurate or true, so they aren't a very reliable source for information because pretty much anyone with access to the wiki software can change or add on false information which can facilitate abuse of the system. I don't think that using a wiki for a digital portfolio is a good option because anyone with access to the browser can change or edit the information you have put on your web page.
- HTML- Is this a good option for creating a digital portfolio?

Digital Portfolio
Digital Portfolios
What Is A Digital Portfolio?
A Digital Portfolio is an Electronic Portfolio that is creative means of organizing, summarizing, and sharing artifacts, information, and ideas about teaching and/or learning, along with personal and professional growth on the world wide web. Digital Portfolio's are sometimes used to evaluate students, and show how the students have progressed through their years working technology. They Also Provide insight to either the student or teachers talents, skills, beliefs and acquired knowledge, They are extremely to use and navigate and also access around the world all you need is an internet connection.

Important Three Features Of Digital Portfolio
Advantage
Disadvantage
- This Digital Portfolio is about a senior school project at Burlington High School by a girl named Jenna M about recreational sport.
- The heading in this case is recreational sport.
- In this digital Portfolio, she also talks about her life in school with learning disabilities and her struggles and successes.
- Its a Very well organized portfolio, the design is pretty simple nothing too over the top. There weren't many images, a good amount of text( not too little & not too much), She didn't use a lot of different colors just white and green, I would personally prefer a lot of color especially bright and fluorescent colors which she didn't have.
- It was very easy to get around, I love the organization, I think she did an excellent job with that. It was a very simple and basic page, very easy to navigate different things.
- This Digital Portfolio is about Sara. D's internship at eagle's outlet a Barrington High school store. In this portfolio she talks about the components of the internship, her hard work and challenges working at the school store.
- The Heading Of this digital portfolio is mainly about her internship at the store, what she did, what she had problems with and etc.
- In this digital portfolio she attached her resume, transcripts, her job application and other information. she also talks about her skills and accomplishments and keeps a progress log.
- I like this portfolio because there is a lot of details and information, and the way she organized her portfolio made it very easy for me to navigate around her portfolio. I also like the way she used many different colors that to me reflects and shows that she is a very enthusiastic and happy person.
The way you design your portfolio says a lot about the type of person you are. although like in the first one i didn't really see a lot images, but I like that she didn't put a lot of text because when you do have too much text, It becomes a bit boring and I get tired of reading all that information.
- The organization of her portfolio was very well done, easy to move around from place to place and simple to look at all her attachments and etc. I like the concept of having a sort of content text box on the left, and then having heading links to the rest of her work from the title's in the text box.
- This Portfolio is by a boy Named Zach who goes to Mt.Hope high school in Bristol, Rhode Island, his portfolio has sample writing, art and other ways he has met the standards in the listed subjects and some of his accomplishments.
- The headings in this portfolio are as follows-
- I like the way he had like two types of design setups for his portfolio, like some pages were with the black/red theme others had various colors. I think that is very creative, and I would Maybe use the same aspect in my coming portfolio. Not many images, quite a lot of text so I wasn't really able to read everything about his portfolio. I think maybe out of the three i liked Zach's the best, his design was very creative and colorful
- There was a lot of "ground" to cover in Zach's portfolio, a lot of information,I guess findnig things was preety easy and simple.Very easy to access all the different headings and etc. I got around his electronic portfolio very well. A lot of detail in different places, he also used the same left size text box concept, which I like a lot because you don't have everything all over the place.
I have definately learnt a lot about digital portfolios these past two weeks and I look forward to putting my own portfolio together.

Important Three Features Of Digital Portfolio
- People are able to use it to show what they have accomplished and the skills they have acquired in and out of the classroom. It also enables us to share our experiences and work as students to various audiences.
- Utilizes various technology tools and programs for students to create portfolios. We also get to document and reflect on projects and our other work so that we can grow and develop as learners.
- It also helps the student/teacher organize and select best of their own products for the portfolio. self expression is also another important element with digital portfolios, college's usually look for enthusiastic students to admit, digital portfolios enable you to add audio and video and other media concepts to your portfolio unlike the regular hand written portfolios.
- Access and availability is great with digital portfolios, you or anyone else can access and view the portfolio from anywhere around the world.
Advantage
- Later on in most people's lives, like when applying to a college, job and etc. You usually need a portfolio with the best of your work, that is usually a very difficult process because finding work that you probably did maybe 10 years ago on a piece of paper, especially if you aren't a very organized person and don't keep all of your work together is a hassle. with electronic portfolios, we are able to just post all over material and work in one place which makes accessing it relatively easy.
Disadvantage
- In some area's in the world, Internet is not easily available or sometimes the Internet can be down or a problem occurs with the server. Then accessing your digital portfolio will be a problem.
